Just bought a 1997 Mondeo Ghia 1.8 TD estate. The remote fob or the key in the drivers door lock results in a lock/unlock cycle but using the key in the passenger door opens/locks all the other doors For a couple of years had an occasional problem where there was no ignition at all when the car was warm, usually from the SUN at first. You need to remove the interior tailgate trims which are held on by 2 screws and a lot of clips, remove the top trim first then the 2 side trims, then take the 2 screws out of the grab handles on each side and unclip the lower trim, below shows the location of the clips and screws on a 5 door (estate is I have a mondeo 2010 titanium X which has keyless entry and start and seems to have a strange problem with the lock/alarm. When I return to the locked car and open the boot using the handle on the boot it unlocks and opens as you would expect, but if my wife then try's to open the rear passenger side door whilst I have the boot open the door unlocks and opens but the alarm goes off. It locks and unlocks when I use the remote no problem. When I lock the car using the drivers handle I can unlock the car with the passenger handle. Sometimes it could be fixed by removing a plastic plug at rear of door and adjusting screw inside. Often door handle needed to be removed by unscrewing the same screw and a small packer needed bonded to tab on handle to close gap. This was a common problem with the MK3 so perhaps your MK4 is a different design. I've bought a secondhand one, stripped the door and replaced it. Usually the warning sounds like parking sensors, door open, etc come through the Speakers but i've noticed they've just started coming from behind the dash, like an internal speaker.
